It was a beautiful morning to be out birding here in Old Trail. Although a bit chilly, the sun was bright and there was little wind. In 2-1/2 hours, I had 32 avian species.
Pine Siskin
House Finch
Song Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Eastern Towhee
Eastern Bluebird
Downy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers were the highlight of the hike. The first one, in Western Park near the lodge, was a juvenile just starting to get its adult feathers. It was poking holes in trees and then returning to see if any sap was coming out.
