Tempereature was in the mid-50s with a light breeze. There was complete cloud cover, but it was thin during the morning hours. It should have been a good day for birding, but there were so many dog-walkers and "walker-talkers" here in Old Trail, that finding birds was a chore. After about 1-1/2 hours, I only had 16 avian species.
Northern Flicker
Carolina Wren
Pine Siskins
White-crowned Sparrow
House Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
Turkey Vulture
Red-bellied Woodpecker
White-throated Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Then I went to some more rugged areas of the trail, and encountered far fewer people, and a lot more wildlife.
Deer
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Eastern Bluebird
Blue Jay
Brown Creeper
Chipping Sparrow
Downy Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
House Finches
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Yellow-rumped Warbler
I heard one of our resident Red-shouldered Hawks being harassed by American Crows. The hawk started screaming for help, circled a few times, and flew away.

But the crows didn't let up. Then I saw why. There was a Red-tailed Hawk perched in a tree.

As I hiked in the more wooded areas of the trail, I started seeing a few more Pine Siskins.

And then Pine Siskins were everywhere! Some were foraging alone or in flocks. Some were bathing at the edge of a pond. There must have been 30 to 40 of them in this one area.
