I did some birding here in Old Trail (Crozet) on December 5, 6, and 8, and Walt Childs and I birded in the Stuart's Draft area on December 7. Morning temperatures each day were a little below or above freezing, with afternoon temperatures in the upper 30s. Each day, I saw 20 to 25 avian species, and over the four day period, totaled 42 avian species. The following are some of my favorite photos from these outings.
My 42nd species was a Winter Wren. This species is very secretive, making it hard to see them, and even harder to photograph them. However, there's a Winter Wren spending the winter near my house in Old Trail, and I suspect that it no longer is spooked by me, as it let me take lots and lots of close-up photos of it; in fact, my best-ever photos of this species. At the end of this report, there's a link to an entire page of photos of this bird.
