Between recuperating from foot surgery, a one day winter weather event, and three days staying home while repairmen worked on getting our instant hot water heater from leaking, my birding during the past week was confined to watching House and Goldfinches at our feeder, and seeing a Bufflehead in the nearby retention pond.

My foot seems to be healing, so I did a short hike here in Old Trail, and ended up with 21 avian species. Best bird was my first of season Winter Wren.

I spent a little more than an hour this afternoon up at the Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch, where I could do some birding from a lawn chair. Other than a few Crows, Ravens, Black and Turkey Vultures, Starlings, and a lone Song Sparrow, all I saw there were a few Red-tailed Hawks.
