We didn't expect to see much here, but it was a pleasant hike, and we didn't see anyone else except for staff in the Visitor Center. I heard a couple of warblers, including a Common Yellowthroat, but we couldn't locate them in the dense trees. We stopped at the marsh overlooks and heard a Least Bittern. I have heard this species several times in the past, and have never seen one, so I was hoping to get a Least Bittern as a life bird on this trip. But we couldn't see it. We did see, however, another Olive Sparrow, and I finally got some photos of a White-tipped Dove.
Near the end of our hike, we got some good looks at a Groove-billed Ani.

Our plan ws to drive from there to Brownsville, do some late afternoon and early morning birding in Brownsville, and then head over to South Padre Island. But we tried three different hotels, and there weren't any vacancies, so we headed north and found a place to spend the night in Harlingen. We didn't realize it at the time, but this turned out to be a good change of plans for us.
