Walt and I met up with Huck Hutchens at the parking lot. Huck is the park host for birding there, and we know Huck from the Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch. He used to live in Waynesboro, Virginia, and still has family in the area. Huck had just been watching a Green Kingfisher, one of my target life birds, when he saw us in the parking lot, but when we got back to that spot just five minutes later, it was gone, and we missed this species on the trip. Huck spent the afternoon showing us around the park, and I added eight more life birds there, plus a lot of other neat species. We also heard a Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet, but did not see it. I added this species to our trip list, but did not count it as a life bird because I need to see or photograph a species as a personal criterion for my life list.
