Rockfish Valley Trail, VA, 7/14/15

We had more than an inch of rain overnight, and with thunderstorms forecasted for this afternoon, I didn't think I would get any birding in today. But there was a break in the cloud cover, so I headed over to the Rockfish Valley Trail. I hiked the trail from the parking lot to the south end of Glenthorne Loop and back. It wasn't very "birdy," and I had logged only 16 species on the way to the second wooden bridge, but added 5 more species on the return hike for a total of 21 avian species.

There were quite a few juvenile birds out, including at least three juvenile Orchard Orioles (pink bill) along with their mama.
