Tree Swallow
The trail was fairly quiet. The only warblers I saw were summer residents: Yellow-breasted Chat and Common Yellowthroat. I haven't seen any Yellow Warblers on the trail this year, probably because of the clear-cutting of the east side of Reid's Creek where they have nested in previous years.

I checked out my favorite warbler sites on the first 14 miles of the parkway. I heard American Redstart, Cerulean, and Kentucky Warblers at the Rockfish Valley Overlook, but the vegetation was too dense to locate any of them. The same was true at several other sites. The only birds I could see were Eastern Towhees, an Eastern Wood-Pewee, and a few Indigo Buntings because they tended to sing from open branches.

I ended my trip on the parkway at the higher elevation Hickory Springs Overlook where the vegetation was not as dense, and was able to see and photograph three warbler species: Cerulean, Hooded, and American Redstart. A Broad-winged Hawk was circling high above.
