I spent the better part of the day birding in Augusta County. I started out at Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro, looking for early migration warblers. Last autumn, this park was exceptionally good for seeing warblers. The park was very "birdy," but I didn't see any warblers there. All of the birds there were common woodland species. I logged 18 avian species in the park.

Canada Goose
Mallard

Black Vulture
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Northern Flicker
Blue Jay

My next stop was in Swoope, where I added nine avian species to the trip list, but nothing really exciting there.

Bald Eagle in nest

My last stop was at the Augusta Springs Wetlands, where I added three more avian species to bring today's list to 30 species. There was a beaver in the wetlands pond.

Rain is in the forecast for the next five days. Perhaps birding will be better next week.
