Tree Swallows
Spring must be on the way. I hadn't been to the Rockfish Valley Trail for a while, so I went there this morning. Although there were quite a few Song Sparrows, the trail wasn't very "birdy." But I did log 22 avian species in 90 minutes there, including an American Kestrel, a Fox Sparrow, and a few first-of-season Tree Swallows. The Tree Swallows were picking out Bluebird boxes for nesting and the Eastern Bluebirds were keeping a close watch to make sure that the Tree Swallows weren't trying to claim a box that the Bluebirds had already taken.

I saw a new nest near the first wooden bridge. It was about 10 feet off the ground and a little larger than half a tennis ball. If any of the nest experts out there knows what it might be, please let me know.
