The forecast was for rain to start after 2 p.m. this afternoon and continue through Sunday evening. I wanted to get some birding in before the rain, so I arrived at the trail at 9:00 this morning. I parked at the main kiosk, headed downstream, and had 14 avian species by 9:20 when the cloulds got extremely dark. I was near the bog area, 1/3 mile from the kiosk, and by the time I made it back near my car, it was 9:30 and pouring. I waited under the route 151 bridge for almost 1/2 hour, the rain let up, and the birds starting singing.

I headed back toward the bog area, but it continued to drizzle lightly, and my birding was done from under tree cover when I could, and I tried to keep my camera as dry as possible. I added another seven species, but by the time I made it back to the bog area, the rain started to get heavy again, and I called it quits around 10:30. Highlights for me were five sparrow species: Lincoln's, Swamp, Chipping, Song, and Field.
