Ridgeview Park & Rockfish Valley Trail 9/23/14

All photos are © Marshall Faintich

What a difference a week makes! I had a errand to run in Waynesboro this morning, so I made an hour+ stop at Ridgeview Park. Although I did log 18 avian species there, it wasn't "birdy" at all compared with last week. I only saw two warbler species there: Magnolia and Tennessee, but I did get a new fall 2014 bird - a Swainson's Thrush.

The next two photos are either the same bird, or two birds near each other in the same tree. I think that both photos show a Tennessee Warbler, although the yellow undertail covert coloring on the second photo is either unusual or a reflection from the leaves. I think that the strong eyeline and fairly bold supercilium rule out an Orange-crowned Warbler.

A quick stop at the Rockfish Valley Trail shortly after noon yielded only a few birds.
