Stoney Creek (Wintergreen) 6/26/14

The forecast was for lower humidity today, but someone forgot to tell the atmosphere - another hot and muggy morning. I decided to hike here in Stoney Creek, and ended the 2+ mile hike with 28 avian species.

As soon as I left my house, I saw a white-tailed deer in our front yard. I headed first to the end of the street to check on the juvenile Cooper's Hawks, but only found one of them sitting in the nest.

Most of the birds were common summer species. An Eastern Kingbird was chasing crows away from its nest near Lake Monocan.

Indigo Bunting

I saw an immature Indigo Bunting that made me think of female Chaffinches that I have seen in England and New Zealand.

I stopped once again at the Cooper's Hawk nest near the end of my hike. The hawk was perched on a branch near the nest and then headed back to the nest.
