Rockfish Valley Trail 10/11/12

I only had time for a short hike on the trail this morning, so I parked by the Rockfish River kiosk, headed downstream and then on Glenthorne Loop to the bog and back, and then upstream to the park benches and return. I logged 20 species in the first 30 minutes, and another 17 in the next hour. Although there was a Magnolia Warbler in the bog area, and Common Yellowthroat, Palm, and Yellow-rumped Warblers upstream, it was the sparrows that have now taken the top billing.

Downstream from route 151 to the picnic table was loaded with sparrows, and I saw Song, Field, Savannah, Grasshopper, Eastern Towhee, and Chipping Sparrows downstream, and White-thoated and Swamp Sparrows upstream.
