Although Walt Childs and I logged 48 species on the trail this morning, it was fairly quiet compared to the past few weeks. We saw four warbler species: Magnolia, Common Yellowthroat, Palm, and one unidentified species. This last warbler flew right in front of me into the center of a bush. It appeared to both Walt and me to be a Common Yellowthroat - small, dark brown back, and a buffy yellow, unmarked breast. But when it turned to fly out the back side of the bush, we saw wing bars, so it couldn't be a Common Yellowthroat. We did not see this warbler again. Possible warblers matching this description include Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, and Pine. It was probably my nemesis bird, a Bay-breasted Warbler, teasing me by flying right in front of my face!
