Rockfish Valley Trail 9/7/12

All photos are © Marshall Faintich

There are times when being the first one on the trail in the morning can be "fun" - my face was the equivalent of an ice-breaker when it came to spider webs. I arrived at the trail at 8:30 and stopped first at the second wooden bridge at the southern end of the Glenthorne Loop trail. Within one hour I had logged 17 species, including a rare Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, another Empidonax flycatcher that was probably a Willow, and a very cooperative Common Yellowthroat that let me take a lot of close-up photos.

I then headed over to the first wooden bridge and logged 8 more species on the north end of the Glenthorne Loop trail and part of the downstream trail, and ended the morning with my 26th species near the main kiosk on the upstream trail.
