Immature White-eyed Vireo
After yesterday's big warbler day on Reddish Knob, Walt Childs and I headed up to the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway to look for more migrating warblers. However, the wind had turned to southerly, and it seemed as though summer birds had left and the migrating birds hadn't arrived yet. There were a few Ravens, Goldfinches, Crows, Pileated Woodpeckers, and Pewees, but it was really quiet. We headed down to the Rockfish Valley Trail to see what might be there. Even though it was just after noon, and the temperature was about 90, we saw more birds in 30 minutes there than all morning on Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We didn't see any unusual or migrating birds, but I heard a White-eyed Vireo, and then a second one calling the first one. We stopped as an immature White-eyed Vireo (with dark eyes) popped up on a branch in front of us to see who we were.
