Yesterday's mix of rain, sleet, and snow flurries meant that there was dense ground fog this morning, but it cleared by 9:00, and I arrived at the trail shortly thereafter. The birds must have been waiting for the fog to clear as well, as there was lots of avian activity on the trail for the next two hours, especially lots of sparrows and juncos. However, there seems to be fewer species on the trail this winter, and it was difficult for me to get 20 species, although the 20th species of the morning was a treat - a female Kestrel sitting on a powerline over the fields east of Reids Creek. There was a Red-tailed Hawk that was chased by crows several times this morning.
