Stoney Creek (Wintergreen); Old Trails (Crozet, VA) 4/11/2011

I got a call at 7:20 this morning from a friend who lives along Lake Monocan - there was a Bald Eagle perched in the tree next to his house. By the time I got there, it was gone, but I did see the Cooper's Hawk that I have been seeing for the past two weeks on Deer Run.

I had a mid-morning appointment in Charlottesville, and stopped at the golf course pond at Old Trails in Crozet. Aside from a few Tree Swallows, Song Sparrows, and Canada Geese, all I saw there was a male and a female Bufflehead.

Late in the afternoon I headed over to the Allen Creek Nature Preserve to see if yesterday's Palm Warblers were still there - did not see them, but the preserve continued to host a number of Yellow-rumped Warblers, a large number of White-throated Sparrows, a Flicker, a Brown Thrasher, Cardinals, and a few other species.
