I took a 2.6 mile hike here in Stoney Creek for the 2011 CBC. I started at 8:45 a.m. and ended at 10:45 a.m. The following graphic shows the route that I took:
CBC Route
It was heavily overcast, and some of the small birds were only seen in silhouette, and I could not identify 30 to 40 of them. I only saw a few Bluebirds, and did not see any Song Sparrows or Yellow-rumped Warblers, but they may have been mixed in with some of the small birds that I did not count.
I saw a few Canada Geese along the way, but saw a large flock in Sawmill Creek pond # 4, so I have only included the latter as the few I saw along the way probably joined the large flock. I saw 80 or more vultures in four trees to the southeast of Sawmill Creek pond # 6, and all but a lone vulture in a different tree there had black heads. Many of them were in silhouette so I couldn't tell the head color for sure, but when some of them flew around, all but two were Black Vultures, so my best guess is that most of them were Black and not Turkey Vultures.
Here's my list:
Northern Cardinal
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Black Vultures
Canada Geese
